FOIF Comedy

28 Aug

Definition: The type of comedy that is “funny on its face.”  That is, requiring no additional knowledge on part of the audience. The humor can be appreciated without knowledge of past events, character relationships, or any other supplemental information.  FOIF comedy is one dimentional and thus more readily understood by the general public, however for that same reason, significantly less funny.
For example, those who do not appreciate a show such as Seinfeld are the FOIF comedy type; needing immediate humor gratification without the requirement of thought. However these people are missing out on the numerous appreciable layers of situational comedy that exist when its humor is based upon a cumulation of past experience, repetition, character relations/personalities, etc., which make that type of smart-humor quite hysterical and vastly superior.

Yes. It makes me so mad when people say they don’t like Seinfeld. It’s like, yeah really sorry they aren’t hitting themselves over the head or falling down stairs, since that’s the only kind of thing you find funny. But if you actually watch and use your brain just a little bit, you’d get just how ingenious it is.

Ashley, I could not have said that any better. Thank you.
